Covid death: Kerala govt to provide Rs 5,000 per month for 3 years to bereaved BPL families
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to provide extra financial aids, in addition to all the existing financial and other supports, to the families of those who die of Covid-19. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday.
A financial aid of Rs 5,000 will be given for three years from the first month of transferring the aid directly to the beneficiary account. It was also decided to get fund for this from Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund until a specific fund is allocated in the budget. BPL families of the deceased are eligible for this benefit, irrespective of the social welfare schemes and other pensions the family members receive.
The benefit will be given even if the person dies outside the state or abroad, but it is necessary that the family should be settled inside the state. The income of the family of the deceased would not be counted, if the dependent wants to shift to BPL category.
Direction has also been given to make the application format a simple one. Concerned district collector and revenue officials will be assigned for its implementation in 30 days of receiving an application. The officials are supposed to ensure that government employees and income taxpayers should not be made the beneficiary of the scheme.
