Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided in the Covid review meeting to exempt first year degree students, who could not get vaccinated as they are aged below 18 years, from the vaccination rules. Such students will be permitted to come to the colleges.
Currently, only those students who were inoculated with both doses of vaccine are allowed to attend classes in colleges. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a direction to educate students and teachers who are hesitant to get vaccinated.
The chief minister also directed to ensure counselling for school and college students as they have been going through a tough time not being able to meet their friends. So, service of counsellors should be available in educational institutions.
Fitness of school buildings and pick and drop vehicles should be inspected before reopening. Uniform will not be made mandatory in the initial phase. The number of bus services across the state also will be increased during the reopening time, he added.
