Kozhikode: Milma (Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation) has informed that they will not procure the evening milk from the societies from Tuesday onwards. Milma will collect only 60 percent of the daily average of the quantity of the milk given by the societies from May 1 to 10. This system will continue till the ongoing crisis is resolved.

As most of the shops remained closed during the second wave of Covid pandemic, Milma milk sale dropped considerably. But milk production in societies keep multiplying. Currently, about 3 lakh litres of milk remains every day after the sales.

Earlier, Milma used to send the excess milk to private dairy whitener manufacturing companies in Tamil Nadu. Though this causes huge loss, Milma supported the farmers. However, now the surplus milk cannot be sent to Tamil Nadu due to lockdown. Following this, Milma decided to reduce procurement of milk.

The quantity of Milk procured at Milma will be restored once sales is improved after lockdown and surplus milk can be sent to Tamil Nadu factories. All dairy farmers and milk society members should cooperate with the new system, urged Milma Malabar Regional Union chariaman KS Mani and managing director P Murali.
