Covid cases surge in Kerala: 1979 patients in five days
Thiruvananthapuram: With the Covid cases in the state crossing 400 the third day on Sunday, 1979 persons have been confirmed with the infection within five days. With Covid confirmed on Valsala (63) who died on July 5 in Thrissur and Babu (52) on July 7 in Alappuzha, the death toll in the state reached 31.
At present, the total Covid cases in the state is 7873 with 3743 active cases. The recovery rate is at 53.28 percent.
On Sunday, Kerala reported 435 COVID-19 cases, out of which 128 people came from abroad while 87 returned from other states. An alarming 206 persons contracted the disease through contact. Moreover, 2 ITBP, 2 BSF and 4 DSC personnel also developed the disease.
Out of the 435 positive cases, 59 were reported from Palakkad, 57 from Alappuzha, 56 from Kasaragod, 50 from Ernakulam, 42 from Malappuram, 40 from Thiruvananthapuram, 39 from Pathanamthitta, 19 each from Thrissur and Wayanad, 17 from Kannur, 16 from Idukki, 12 from Kottayam, 5 from Kollam and 4 from Kozhikode.
Out of the 206 contact cases, 41 each are from Ernakulam and Kasaragod. 35 are from Alappuzha, 31 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 24 are from Pathanamthitta, 17 are from Malappuram, 6 are from Kottayam, 5 are from Kollam, 4 are from Thrissur while 1 each were from Idukki and Palakkad.
10 health workers also developed the disease. Among them, 4 are from Alappuzha, 2 are from Thiruvananthapuram and 1 each are from Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kasaragod. Moreover, 1 DSC and 1 CISF personnel in Kannur also developed the disease.
