COVID-19: Kerala vaccinates 78.8 pc students in state-run schools

Thiruvananthapuram: According to the latest figures updated in the Sampoorna portal of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), 78.8 per cent of students in the state-run schools has been vaccinated against Covid-19. In other words, among the 13.27 lakh eligible population (15 to 18 age group) of the students in state-run schools, 10.47 lakh students have been inoculated.

However, as per the records of General Education Department, 1.11 lakh students are not yet vaccinated. The number of students who were not able to get their jab due to Covid-19 stands at 14,21.

Minister for General Education V Sivankutty has urged Parents and Teachers Associations to take initiative and speed up the vaccination drive. He also pointed out that there are students who have not uploaded their details to Sampoorna portal. In this regard, he directed the school authorities to take steps to promptly upload the details.

Among the districts, Kollam (88.1%) and Thrissur (87.7%) have the highest vaccination coverage. While Kozhikode (67.5%) and Malappuram (69.4%) have the lowest inoculation.
