Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 1,169 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, a press statement from the office of Health Minister K K Shailaja said. Out of this, 991 contracted the virus through contact and infection source of 56 patients is unknown. 43 had returned from abroad while 95 returned from other states.
Continuing to be the hotspot of coronavirus, Thiruvananthapuram reported 377 Covid-19 cases on Sunday. Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kasaragod also reported over 100 cases, 128, 126 and 113 respectively.
One death was also confirmed in the state from Thiruvananthapuram. Parassala native Vijayalakshmi (68) who had died the other day, tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, taking the Covid death toll in Kerala to 82.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 377 (363 through contact), Kollam – 69 (51 through contact), Pathanamthitta – 25 (18 through contact), Alappuzha – 38 (24 contact cases), Kottayam – 79 (70), Idukki – 42 (23), Ernakulam – 128 (79), Thrissur – 58 (40), Palakkad – 38 (36), Malappuram – 126 (113), Kozhikode – 50 (39), Wayanad – 19 (18), Kannur – 16 (7) and Kasaragod – 113 (110).
29 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. 11 from Thiruvananthapuram, 7 from Ernakulam, 5 from Kannur, 4 from Malappuram and one each from Pathanamthitta and Wayand contracted the virus. 10 KSE employees and a KLF employee in Thrissur also turned Covid positive.
Meanwhile, 688 recoveries were also reported in the state on Sunday. The number of recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 66, Kollam – 168, Pathanamthitta – 58, Alappuzha – 15, Kottayam – 39, Idukki – 30, Ernakulam – 37, Thrissur – 63, Palakkad – 29, Malappuram – 44, Kozhikode – 93, Wayanad – 19, Kannur – 55 and Kasaragod – 30.
At present there are 11,342 active Covid cases in the state with 14,467 recoveries.
1,45,777 people are under observation in the state as on Friday with 1,35,173 in house/institutional quarantine and 10,604 in hospitals. 1,363 people were admitted to hospitals on Friday.
In the past 24 hours, 22,028 samples were tested. As many as 8,17,078 samples were sent for tests in total out of which the results of 5,215 are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance, 1,26,042 samples were collected from priority groups. Out of them, results of 1,541 samples are awaited.
30 more hotspots were identified in state and 25 removed from the list. At present, there are 497 hotspots in Kerala.
