Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister K. K. Shailaja said that people from other states are the reason for spreading of coronavirus in Poonthura here. She warned the public to exercise caution while interacting with people from other states.
COVID-19 has spread across Tamil Nadu and many people from there come to Kerala for trade. We must exercise caution while interacting with people coming from other states where the virus spread is at an alarming rate.
Meanwhile, residents are staging a protest in Poonthura violating the lockdown. They have demanded authorities to allow them to buy essential items including food. Though there was a clash between police and public, the situation is peaceful now.
Officials led by the ACP are holding talks with the public. There are plans to transfer the elderly in the area to a special centre. It is learned that those above 70 years of age will be shifted to a special area within the region.
Those residing in Poonthura, Manikyavilakam and Puthanpally wards will be shifted. Officials are also planning to open a COVID first level treatment centre at Poonthura.
The move comes in the wake of the alarming spread of coronavirus in the region. Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran will take part in discussions in this regard.
