Kannur: Six trains of the Palakkad division which were cancelled after several locomotive pilots were tested positive for Covid-19, will resume their services from Monday onwards.
The trains are: Kannur-Mangalore-Kannur Unreserved (06477/06478), Mangalore-Kozhikode Reserve Express (16610), Kozhikode-Kannur Unreserved (06481), Kannur-Cheruvathur Unreserved (06469), Cheruvathur-Mangalore Unreserved (05491), and Shornur-Kannur-Shornur-Memu (06023/060240).
However, the services would have to be temporarily halted if Covid-19 cases continue to increase. Currently, 34 people are positive in the Palakkad division. This includes 18 loco pilots and 16 assistants.
Without making any alternative arrangements, the railway officials had cancelled the services of eight trains on Saturday and Sunday.
It is learnt that the services will resume with the locomotive pilots of freight trains. Loco pilots of special trains on Saturdays and Sundays will be reassigned to passenger trains for a few days.
At present, there is a shortage of 50 loco pilots in the Palakkad division alone.
