Alappuzha: District Collector A. Alexander declared all areas under the limits of Pulinkunnu village panchayat in Kuttanad taluk as coronavirus containment zones.
The action comes after the medical officer reported that a man from ward 6, who was tested positive for the virus, had contact with many people inside the panchayat. Earlier, wards 5, 6, 14 and 15 in the panchayat were declared hotspots.
As part of the restrictions, road traffic through roads inside the panchayat has been banned. Exemption will be given for supply of essential items and travel for medical emergencies. Alappuzha-Changanassery road will remain open. However, travellers will not be allowed to stop, or allow passengers to enter or exit a vehicle while travelling through the area.
Shops selling essentials and food items can remain open from 8 am to 11 am while ration (PDS) shops can remain open from 8 am to 2 pm. Not more than five persons should be present at these shops at one time. Other establishments must remain closed.
More than four people must not gather in these areas. Those violating the restrictions will be charged under the Epidemic Diseases Act, Disaster Management Act and sections 188 and 269 of IPC.
