Kollam: As part of the COVID-19 preventive measures, Kollam district administration has decided to implement an odd-even scheme for restricting the use of private vehicles based on registration number.
The new system will come into force from 6 am on Monday and will be strictly imposed across the district.
As per the scheme, vehicles with odd numbers will be permitted to ply on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. At the same time, vehicles with even numbers will be allowed to ply on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Kollam district authority has decided to strengthen the restrictions following the rapid increase in COVID cases contracted through contact.
All containment zones across the district will remain under strict restrictions on Sundays also. Only alternate shops will be allowed to open in containment zones. There are restrictions on people coming out of their homes.
As COVID cases are increasing in coastal regions, 15 to 20 houses will be categorised as clusters and disinfection works will be initiated.
