Kochi: There is no need to be concerned about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Thrissur, Minister for Agriculture V. S. Sunil Kumar said while addressing the media at the collectorate here on Friday.
The government is taking all steps needed in the district. Rapid tests are being conducted. Areas from where coronavirus cases are reported are being declared containment zones. At the moment, the situation is under control, the minister who is a resident of Thrissur, said.
There were concerns after the number of COVID-19 positive cases, the origin of which could not be identified, increased in Thrissur. Out of the 25 coronavirus positive cases reported in Thrissur, 14 had contracted the disease through contact.
The government has been unable to create the list of contacts of the positive cases. In this situation, Minister for Local Self Government, A. C. Moideen, who is in charge of Thrissur district, chaired a high level meeting on Friday.
Speaking to the media, V. S. Sunil Kumar said that fishermen from other states will be prevented from coming to Munambam in Ernakulam.
“Traditionally, fisherfolk come to Munambam. However, under the present circumstances, people, including those from Red Zones, cannot be allowed to come to Munambam,” the Minister added.
