COVID-19: Kerala to purchase one lakh antigen test kits
Thiruvananthapuram: The state health department has decided to purchase one lakh antigen test kits for identifying COVID-19 infected people in society. It is learned that the medical research council permitted the department to use antigen test to diagnose the disease.
At present, people who return from abroad without COVID-19 test are undergoing an antibody test at the airport. With the new decision, all returnees will have to undergo antigen test too.
Health department is hopeful that this affordable test will help to identify the transmission of the disease in any part of the society.
In the first phase, the medical services corporation will purchase 50,000 kits. A kit costs Rs 450. South Korea based company Biosensor is manufacturing the kit.
The oral swab will be collected for the antigen test. It is learned that this test can detect the presence of coronavirus antigen on one’ s body. The result will be available within 30 minutes.
The rapid antibody test involves testing the blood sample. Through this test, the professionals can determine whether a person has developed antibodies against the virus after having the infection. Those who turn positive in the test will be taken for PCR test to confirm the disease.
