Covid-19: Kerala records 5080 new cases, 40 deaths, 7908 recoveries
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 5080 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, informed the health department in a press release. Test postitivity rate (TPR) was recorded at 9.42 percent.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam - 873, Kozhikode - 740, Thiruvananthapuram - 621, Thrissur - 521, Kannur - 361, Kottayam - 343, Kollam - 307, Idukki - 276, Wayanad - 228, Pathanamthitta - 206, Malappuram - 203, Palakkad - 175, Alappuzha - 143 and Kasaragod - 83.
A total of 53,892 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local bodies.
Along with 40 fresh COVID deaths, the health department also reported 156 deaths that are newly certified as Covid deaths based on revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 37,495 in the state.
1,92,768 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,87,604 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 5,164 people are in hospitals. 269 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.
Among the 58,088 active Covid cases reported, only 7.2 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
28 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 4,776 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 252 patients remains unidentified. 24 health workers also tested positive for Covid.
Meanwhile, 7,908 recoveries were also reported in the state. 50,04,786 people were recovered from the disease so far.
