Covid-19: Kerala records 4280 new cases, 35 deaths, 5379 recoveries on Wednesday
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 4280 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release. Test positivity rate (TPR) was recorded at 8.74 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram - 838, Ernakulam - 825, Thrissur - 428, Kozhikode - 387, Kottayam - 327, Kollam - 286, Wayanad - 209, Palakkad - 203, Kannur - 194, Pathanamthitta - 167, Idukki - 144, Alappuzha - 137, Malappuram - 101 and Kasaragod - 34.
A total of 48,916 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local bodies.
Along with 35 fresh COVID deaths, the health department also reported 273 deaths that are newly certified as Covid deaths based on revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 38,353 in the state.
1,80,316 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,75,361 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4955 people are in hospitals. 305 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.
Among the 51,302 active Covid cases reported, only 7.3 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
27 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 3956 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 274 patients remains unidentified. 23 health workers also tested positive for Covid.
Meanwhile, 5379 recoveries were also reported in the state. 50,23,658 people were recovered from the disease so far.
