He was speaking to media after the panchayat committee meeting held here in the wake of death of a former ASI Abdul Azeez on Tuesday due to coronavirus infection

Thiruvananthapuram: With the second COVID-19 death reported from Pothecode in the state capital, everyone residing in the whole panchayat and those within 2 km radius should undergo complete quarantine, urged Minister Kadakampally Surendran.

He was speaking to media after the panchayat committee meeting held here in the wake of a former ASI Abdul Azeez passed away on Tuesday due to coronavirus infection.

“Those who had contact with Azeez are already placed under quarantine. If there is anyone else, they have to call the helpline number 1077,” he said.

“Doctors are working 24*7 at call centre. If anyone arriving from coronavirus-hit countries it should be informed at the call centre. They have to undergo the medical examination. If anyone had contact with Azeez it should also be informed,” he added.

For the upcoming two or three weeks Ponthencode panchayat completely has to undergo quarantine. Also those within 2 km radius of Pothencode belonging to Andoorkonam, Kattaikonam, Parottukonam and Melemukku have to go in quarantine,” minister urged.

He also added that it has been instructed to collect the passport details of everyone in these regions and there is no possibility of community transmission.

Such strict actions are taken as it was unable to confirm how the deceased caught the virus as he has no foreign travel history or any close contact with COVID-19 patients.

Officials were unable to complete the route map of the deceased Azeez. He had also taken part in many functions and events.
