Thiruvananthapuram: A team of 25 commandos, under the leadership of SAP commandant in charge L. Solaman, have been deployed for special duty in Poonthura region in order to stop COVID-19 transmission. Strict triple lockdown will be implemented in the area.
Coast Guard, coastal security and Marine Enforcement have been instructed to stop fishing boats from entering and going out of Poonthura region as part of the prevention activities, informed state police chief Loknath Behera.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had instructed earlier that immediate intervention should be made to stop the transmission of the virus in Poonthura. As a part of this, Deputy Commissioner, Divya V Gopinath and Assistant Commissioner Aishwarya Dongre will lead the police activities in the region.
ADGP Dr Sheik Dervesh Sahib will overview the law and order division. The help of community leaders will be sought to spread awareness on maintaining social distancing and other safety precautions by making announcements in police jeeps using loudspeakers.
Kerala and Tamil Nadu police will ensure that nobody travels from Thiruvananthapuram to Kanyakumari or the other way around. Kerala police chief Loknath Behera has communicated with his Tamil Nadu counterpart, JK Tripathy, regarding this.
