COVID-19: CM makes veiled attack on Opposition with negligence remark
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised Opposition obliquely over the lapses in following COVID-19 protocol in the state. He stated that those who contributed to making the COVID-19 situation worse, should rectify their mistake.
The Chief Minister was addressing the media following a COVID review meeting here on Monday.
CM noted that there were no lapses from the part of officials in taking vigilant steps against COVID-19. But he hinted at the protests staged by Opposition amid the pandemic outbreak.
“When the government appealed the public to stay vigilant, some people interpreted the message as a PR campaign. Some unnecessary meetings promoted a wrong message to the public. With such events, people thought there was no need to stay vigilant as appealed by the government. A few people organised meetings by violating the COVID protocol. Such practices created a negative impact on society. This turned out to be a major reason for the lapses in adhering to COVID protocol. Government’s campaign for COVID prevention was mocked as a useless speech,” criticised CM.
He noted that the responsibility of COVID resistance was handed over to the police for implementing strict restrictions. Police will monitor the quarantined people with a modern mechanism, he added.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the prevention of COVID-19 transmission will be a challenging task in the state.
