COVID-19 cases on rise in Wayanad, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta
Thiruvananthapuram: COVID-19 cases are increasing in Wayanad, Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta districts in the state, reported the state health department. The report pointed out that 906 people who succumbed to the virus belonged to below 60 age group.
In the initial phase of the outbreak, Wayanad and Pathanamthitta districts have not reported high number of cases compared to other districts. But now, there is growing concern over the rising new cases in both districts.
Last week, the highest test positivity rate of 12.3 percent was reported in Wayanad.
Meanwhile, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam reported 11.6 percent and 10.6 percent test positivity rate respectively.
The test positivity increased by 2 percent in Pathanamthitta district.
The report of the health department also categorised the people who succumbed to COVID-19 as per their age.
6 children belong 10 years, 9 belonging to 11-20 age group and 35 people belonging to 21-30 age group succumbed to the virus, revealed the report.
Meanwhile, 77 people from 31-40 age group, 218 people from 40-50 age group and 561 people belonging to 51-60 age group died of COVID-19. 966 people between 61 and 70 years also succumbed to the virus.
As per the report, a total of 2210 people above 60 years died of COVID-19 in the state. Out of them, 95 percent was suffering from other serious diseases. Meanwhile, the death toll in the report confirmed the drawbacks in reverse quarantine.
At the same time, the health department has directed to exclude containment zones from the pulse polio immunisation programme on January 17.
The pulse polio immunisation in these places will be carried out once the restrictions are lifted. The medicine to children in the houses where people are quarantined will be given after the quarantine period.
