With 44 new cases, Omicron tally in Kerala touches 107

Thiruvananthapuram: With 44 case new Omicron cases, Kerala’s active caseload of the variant has risen to 107. Among the 44 individuals turned positive for Omicron variant, 10 returned from high-risk countries while 27 are from low-risk countries. In that, seven were infected by the virus through contact.

Health minister Veena George while addressing the media urged citizens to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols as the present situation calls for more caution.

The minister said that as the variant supposedly spreads faster, high caution should be maintained to avoid the situation in other countries and states.

The district wise data on the newly confirmed Omicron cases are as follows:

Ernakulam: 12

Kollam: 10

Thiruvananthapuram: 8

Thrissur: 4

Kottayam, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kannur: 2 each

Alappuzha, Idukki: 1 each

Among the 107 individuals who turned positive for the Omicron variant, 41 are from high-risk countries while 52 are from low-risk countries. In that, 14 were infected by the virus through contact.
