Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of surging Covid-19 cases in the state, Kerala government has decided to conduct six-day special drive from June 16 for inoculating senior citizens with preventive vaccine booster dose.
The special drive will focus on individuals above the age of 60 who are palliative care patients, bedridden and those in old age homes. The team of health experts will be reaching the respective locations and inoculating them.
This week, the vaccination drive will be held on Thursday and Friday and in the next week it will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
As of now, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Thrissur districts have the highest number of cases. Though health complications reported are less, the spread of the virus is going up.
Evoked by the trend, the health department has urged citizens not to lower their guards against the virus. All Covid-19 guidelines in place, including the hygiene measures and social distancing, should be followed.
Senior citizens and those with co-morbidities should take special caution. Those with symptoms should undergo Covid-19 tests. The department pointed out that people should not stay back from taking the booster shots over the thought that they are already inoculated with two shots.
