COVID-19: 4 more containment zones in Kozhikode


All political, social and cultural gatherings and protests have been banned in the district.

Kozhikode: District Collector S Sambasiva Rao on Tuesday declared four areas in Kozhikode as containment zones.

The areas are: Killipparambu - ward 19 in Olavanna village panchayat, Chakkumkadavu (ward 56), Moonnalingal (ward 62) and Vellayil (ward 66) in Kozhikode corporation.

Ward 19 in Olavanna village panchayat was declared a containment zone after a truck driver from the area tested positive for COVID-19. Wards 56, 62 and 66 were declared containment zones after two test results of a resident from ward 66, who committed suicide, turned positive.

There will be traffic restrictions in the containment zones. However, vehicles coming from and to the Kozhikode beach hospital will be exempted from this.

Shops selling essential items will be open from 8 am to 5 pm. All other shops except those selling essential items, medical stores and health centres will remain closed.

Gathering of over five people inside the containment zone has been banned. Only five people must be present at a shop at one time. 300 samples will be sent from each containment zone inside the corporation tomorrow.
