COVID-19: 1.60 lakh people under quarantine in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the continuing scare of coronavirus, 1,60,304 people are under quarantine in the state. Among them, 1,58,864 people are under home or institutional quarantine and 1440 are in various hospitals.
On Wednesday, 341 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the state.
73,712 sample tested
Till date, 73,712 samples were sent for COVID-19 test and 69,606 turned negative. Meanwhile, among the 16,711 samples collected from priority groups, only 15,264 turned negative. On Wednesday, 4004 samples were sent for the test.
1.56 lakh people returned
Following the repatriation of stranded expats from abroad and relaxation in lockdown, 1,56,878 people returned to Kerala from abroad and other states. 35,779 travelled to Kerala via air and 1621 via sea. At the same time, 1,08,559 people travelled to the state by road and 10,919 people returned by rail.
6 new hotspots
On Wednesday, the government declared six more regions as hotspots of coronavirus. Adichanallur in Kollam, Muttil in Wayanad, Kochi corporation in Ernakulam, Cheruvathur, Padanna and East Eleri were added to the list of hotspots.
At present, Kerala has identified 128 hotspots.
82 cases on Wednesday
Among the 82 COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday, 53 returned from abroad and 19 from other states.
The number of returnees who tested positive for COVID-19 as follows:
Kuwait – 30
Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman – 1 each
Tamil Nadu- 6
Delhi – 3
