Kochi: The Economic Offences Court in Kochi rejected the bail plea of Arjun Aayanki in the Karipur gold smuggling case. The court made it clear that bail cannot be granted to the prime suspect at the crucial time of investigation. The court considered the arguments of Customs against the bail application of the accused.

At the same time court granted bail to the third suspect Ajmal. The Customs did not gave any statement against Ajmal's bail application.

Customs had arrested Arjun Aayanki on June 28 in connection with the Karipur gold smuggling case. The arrest was based on the findings that Arjun has links with the international gold smugglers and the local quotation gangs in the state.
