Accused Arun, the house where the murder happened

Thiruvananthapuram: An additional session court on Thursday found Arun, a Peyad native, guilty of the murder of Nedumangad native Surya Gayatri (20).

Judge K Vishnu of the additional session court in Thiruvananthapuram pronounced the verdict. The court will pronounce the sentence on Friday.

Surya Gayathri, who lived with her differently-abled parents in Uzhappakonam in Nedumangad, was stabbed 33 times by the accused on August 30, 2021, at her rented house. Her parents also suffered injuries. The accused was nabbed while trying to escape through the house's terrace.

The court agreed with the prosecution's argument that the accused murdered Surya Gayathri in revenge for rejecting his marriage proposal. The court also dismissed the defendant's argument that he stabbed her in self-defence.

Further, scientific evidence in the case turned out to be a crucial factor in the case.
