Court dismisses petition to postpone hearing of police report in case against Saji Cheriyan

Thiruvalla: A magistrate court on Thursday dismissed a petition challenging the decision to hear the case against minister Saji Cheriyan for denigrating the Indian Constitution during a speech.

The petitioner requested the court to extend the hearing of the petition filed by police to close the case till his petition seeking CBI enquiry is closed by the high court.

Police had given Cheriyan a clean chit stating that his comments on the Constitution were not abusive. Police sought to close the case.

The petition was filed by Baiju Noel, an advocate from Kochi.

Meanwhile, Saji Cheriyan was sworn in as minister on Wednesday evening.
