Kozhikode: The Vigilance Court here on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Muslim League leader KM Shaji demanding the return of money seized by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) during a raid at his residence in Kannur. The vigilance team raided Shaji as part of the money laundering case and reported that he had accumulated wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Last April, Vigilance seized Rs 47,35,500 from his residence. Vigilance refused to return the money to Shaji, citing it could affect the investigation. Shaji argued that the money was donated to the election fund and produced receipts to verify his claim. However, the prosecution pointed out that Shaji fabricated the receipts.
Meanwhile, the lawyer representing Shaji told the media that his party would approach High Court to get back the money.
