Kochi: The court has directed to scrutinise the statement given by gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh on November 10. This has been mentioned in the verdict on the bail plea.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had informed that former principal secretary M Sivasankar had admitted he contacted the customs officer. However, the details regarding the same is not seen in the case records or sealed covers. Also the customs officer whom Sivasankar reportedly contacted was not interrogated.

Following this, the court asked to examine the new statement given by Swapna Suresh on November 10. The court also pointed out that no statement given prior to November 10 stated that Sivasankar had any connection with the gold smuggling case.
