Court awards 16-year jail term to TVM native for sexually assaulting 58-yr-old woman

Thiruvananthapuram: A fast track court has awarded a man 16-year rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 58-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, Renjith (27), hailing from Karodu, was also fined Rs 40,000 by a fast track court in Neyyattinkara on Saturday.

The incident leading to the case happened in 2016. The victim, an unmarried woman, was sexually assaulted by the accused after he broke into her house at night. Renjith was previously booked in several criminal cases and was included in the goonda list prepared by Pozhiyoor Police.

Following the incident, the victim approached her neighbour's house and revealed the incident. The neighbour's statement became crucial evidence in the case.

She also suffered injuries on her mouth. Following this, a case was registered by the police, and the accused was nabbed.
