Thodupuzha: A heartbreaking incident took place in Kambammettu, Idukki, where a newborn was allegedly strangled to death by a couple just hours after birth. The accused are Sadhuram and Malathi, who are natives of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The police have arrested the duo, who were living under the guise of a married couple.

On April 7, the child was born, and it was reported to the police that the newborn had passed away shortly after birth. However, during the autopsy conducted later, it was revealed that the infant was strangled to death, indicating a heinous crime. After conducting a detailed investigation and interrogating the parents, Sadhuram and Malathi, the police confirmed their involvement in the cold-blooded act.

Police said that Sadhuram and Malathi were not married and when she got pregnant, they eloped to Kerala fearing their families. The couple were living as plantation workers in Idukki.

Malathi gave birth in a toilet near the building where they stayed and killed the newborn soon after birth.

Malathi is currently under treatment at Nedumkandam Taluk Hospital. Police have taken Sadhuram under custody.
