Vakathanam: Eight years ago, Kottayam natives Abhilash Muraleedharan and Mayamol tied the knot and immediately headed off to Vakathanam police station.

“Sir, Maya's family is against our relationship. Please tell them not to create any problems,” Abhilash told the police.

The cops, who could not reject the newlyweds' request, held talks with the bride’s family and solved the issue amicably. They also advised Abhilash to lead a good life and let them witness it.

Now, it's been eight years since Abhilash and Maya stepped into their new lives together. Interestingly, Abhilash is now a driver at Vakathanam police station, while Maya is a teacher at Government LP School, Velluthuruthy.

However, as the couple neared their eighth wedding anniversary, they decided to celebrate and cut a cake at Vakathanam police station, the place where it all began.

“We wanted to celebrate our anniversary at the station. Initially, Maya’s family kept a distance. However, after three months, all issues were resolved,” said Abhilash.

The couple fell in love during the time when Abhilash worked as a private bus driver in Kottayam. Maya was a regular passenger on the bus. They were in love for four years and got married on January 16, 2014.

Abhilash, who has worked as an auto driver and empanel driver in KSRTC, joined police services in 2017. Meanwhile, Maya got employed as a government school teacher on the basis of her TTC qualification.

The couple is blessed with two kids namely Adwaith and Adidev.
