Couple booked after 2345 litres of illegal spirit seized from rented house in Angamaly

Spirit seized in Angamaly, Aswathi, Deneesh Joy

Angamaly: Police seized 2,345 litres of illegal spirit and 954 litres of liquor from a rented house in Angamaly on Saturday. Angamaly police arrested a couple, Thrissur native Deneesh Joy (32) and Aswathi (30) in connection with the case. Illicit spirit and liquor were found in their house near Angamaly telephone exchange on Aluva road.

Deneesh has been residing here in this place for a year with his wife. Police informed that the spirit has been brought from Tamil Nadu using a pickup van and was stored in cans and bottles inside the house. The investigation team seized 67 cans of spirit, each weighing 35 litres. The vehicle, fake number plates and labels used to stick on liquor bottles were also seized.

The spirit and liquor brought to this house were distributed in various parts of the state. Holograms of different brands were affixed on the bottles by considering the demands from different localities in the state. The illegal spirit was sent to the respective regions.

A raid has been conducted at the house in Angamaly following information received by the Thrissur rural police and was passed to the Angamaly Station House Officer. The inspection was carried out under Aluva DySP PK Sivankutty, Inspector Soni Mathai, Sub Inspectors Eldo Paul and S Shefin, ASI AV Suresh, SCPO MR Midhun and Ajitha Thilakan.
