Corpse left unattended in patients' ward for over 7 hrs
Kozhikode: The body of a patient from West Bengal, who died of brain abscess, was left unattended at a crowded ward together with other patients for almost seven and half hours at the Kozhikode Medical College on Friday.
Construction labourer Asfarali (18) died Friday morning at ward number eight here. He was referred from a hospital in Mattannur in Kannur to medical college two days back after suffering from brain abscess.
The death was informed to the bystanders around 8 am. Around 11 am, the contractor of Asfarali reached the hospital but again went out to arrange vehicle to transport the body.
The staff in the ward assumed that the body will soon be moved and hence covered it with a cloth and left it on the bed. In this case, it is alleged that the hospital authorities have violated the rule that stipulates that a body should be shifted to the mortuary within three hours of death.
Knowing this the hospital Superintendent, Dr Sajith Kumar took the necessary action to move the body. Meanwhile, the contractor came with the vehicle and took the body around 3 pm.
Dr Sajith said that necessary actions will be taken against those staff who violated rules.
