Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy slammed CPM for conducting district conferences amid rising Covid cases and for spreading the pandemic.

Despite senior leaders of the party testing positive, CPM conferences are being held in closed rooms accommodating people exceeding the limit fixed as per the Covid protocols. All parties under UDF have called off their programmes scheduled till January 31, said Oommen Chandy.

He also added that the government is showing no sincere efforts to control community transmissions by keeping a check on public events.

UDF convener MM Hassan condemned that the government, which cannot tackle the third wave of the pandemic, is a failure. The health minister should consider an alternative as soon as possible, he said.

Almost half of the employees in the secretariat are already infected. Complaints are also being raised over lack of beds in hospitals. Hassan urged the government to shut colleges too for two weeks along with schools.
