Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George urged the public to exercise extreme caution after the daily Covid cases reported in the state crossed 22,000 on Monday.
The number of Covid cases had declined to 1,824 on December 26. However, the cases surged again after the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state. By January 7, the daily cases touched 5,000 and further increased four-fold within just 10 days. Over 12,000 cases were reported on January 12 and it spiked to 22,000 on January 17, said the health minister.
The increasing number of cases will end up in a hike in death rate and patients in critical condition, which adds to the stress of hospitals.
Minister also appealed to the public to avoid public gatherings, maintain social distance and use masks without fail in view of the third wave of the Covid cases.
