Compensation can be given to children if parents die of Covid

Thiruvananthapuram : If parents die due to Covid-19 infection, the compensation amount can be equally distributed among their children. If the deceased is unmarried, then the amount could be given to his or her parents, suggested the Disaster Management Authority.

The registration procedures regarding the disbursal of compensation of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased has already begun. The department has now clarified on who would be eligible for `kin’ role.

If the deceased person is single or married with wife or children not alive, the amount will be given to the parents. The compensation would be given to the wife, if the deceased is the husband or vice versa.

If the parents, wife/husband, children are no longer alive, the amount will then be given to the siblings who have supported the concerned person. The authority further clarified that, if there are parents in the family who were dependent on the person, the amount will be provided to them too.
