Corona is probably the most feared word in the world right now. But it is also the name of an LSG poll candidate in Kollam district.
Corona Thomas is the BJP candidate contesting from Mathilil division for a seat in the Kollam corporation. She is the daughter of Mathilil natives Thomas Mathew and Sheela. Corona has a twin brother named Coral Thomas.
Thomas Mathew was searching for a word which meant aura of light to name his daughter when he stumbled upon Corona.
But the name did not prevent Corona from developing the virus. In October she tested positive for the virus and was admitted to the Government Medical College in Parappally. Corona was pregnant when she tested positive for COVID-19. On October 15, she gave birth to the child who also tested positive.
Soon, the mother and child recovered from the virus and returned home. They were taking rest when the LSG polls were announced and Corona got the surprise chance to be the candidate.
Corona’s husband Jinu Suresh is an active BJP leader. They have two children Arnav and Arpita.
