Core banking software in Coop banks: Opposition alleges corruption in awarding of contract
Thiruvananthapuram: The Opposition on Monday alleged corruption and nepotism in the awarding of contract to provide core banking software for cooperative banks.
VD Satheesan MLA made the allegation in the Assembly that the awarding of the contract to the company named Isthas without inviting tenders was a serious lapse and amounts to corruption and nepotism.
Minister of Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran responded that Isthas is a subsidiary company of RBI.
However, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the minister's contention is wrong and a serious lapse have occurred in the awarding of the contract.
Chennithala demanded that the minister should clarify who is Prasanth Nambiar, the person connected with the company.
But Kadakampally did not respond to Chennithala. Subsequently, the Speaker said that the minister can give explanation later if he does not know the details.
The Opposition members staged a walk out alleging lack of clarity in the minister's reply and corruption in the deal.
