Cops get suspended for allegedly blackmailing TV serial crew members over ganja case

Kakkanad: Two policemen have been suspended from service for allegedly trying to trap the crew members of a TV serial in a fake ganja case. Linto Elias and PP Anoop, civil police officers of Thrikkakara police station, have been suspended over the case.

The duo was suspended based on the investigation report submitted by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner PV Baby. The primary inquiry report also cited mistakes of the cops. Observing this, the City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju issued an order suspending them from service.

According to the complaint, the police asked for a bribe from the TV serial crew members after trapping them in a ganja case. Police claimed that the ganja packet was found in the house at Kakkanad here. The TV serial crew members was staying in this house on rent.

It is reported that Anoop and Linto, the two cops who were in mufti arrived at the house on Wednesday morning and seized a package of ganja from the house. According to the complaint, the youth among the serial crew members had told that the cops promised them that they would settle the case if they pay Rs 10,000 by hand. The cannabis was brought by the police itself, alleged the youth. The policemen left the house after directing them to arrange the money.

However, Thrikkakkara Assistant Commissioner came to know about the incident and visited the serial crew members’ house in the afternoon when Linto and Anoop reached there for money. Linto and Anoop were suspended after finding them guilty in the internal inquiry.
