Controversies over Sabarimala unfortunate: Mata Amritanandamayi

The spiritual leader said that every temple has its own tradition and it must not be overlooked

Thiruvananthapuram: Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi said that the controversies over Sabarimala are unfortunate. Amritanandamayi said that lack of knowledge about temples and worship had caused the problems.

She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam (meeting of Ayyappa devotees) organized by the Sabarimala Karma Samithi at Putharikandam ground here on Sunday.

Every temple has its own tradition and it must not be overlooked, Amritanandamayi said. We must understand the difference between the deity in the temple and the omnipresent God, she added. Every temple has its beliefs and customs. Disregard for these beliefs will adversely affect temple affairs.

Change is necessary but it must not overlook temples, Amritanandamayi said and added that such actions would lead us to lose our values.

Stating that temples are pillars of culture and they must be protected Amritanandamayi clarified that temples synchronized the body and mind.
