Thiruvananthapuram: In the controversial letter case, the Crime Branch recorded the statement of Mayor Arya Rajendran at her residence here on Tuesday evening. Earlier, the probe team tried to record her statement at the Corporation office, but the attempt failed due to protests outside.
It is alleged that the mayor had written a letter to CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan seeking a list of CPM activists to fill the vacant posts in the corporation. When a copy of this letter came out through a news channel, the mayor denied writing the letter and filed a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking a detailed probe.
In the statement given to the Crime Branch, Mayor Arya noted that some might have duplicated her letterhead and could have printed the content as per the allegation. She also reportedly claimed that her signature in the alleged letter might be a scanned copy.
However, she restrained from naming anyone behind the letter and allegations, said reports.
The probe team will likely register a case based on her statement. On the other hand, sources said the protests against the mayor will continue.
