Kochi: Kerala High Court on Saturday directed the Union Government to consider providing free passage of travellers through toll plazas if queues of vehicles exceed 100 meters.

In 2021, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued guidelines to avoid long queues at the toll plaza. Citing this, the High Court directed the union government to consider implementing NHAI's guidelines to avoid traffic congestion.

The remark has been made by a division bench of the High Court while considering a petition filed by a Palakkad native claiming that long queues at Paliyekkara Toll Plaza are due to traffic congestion.

The court adjourned the hearing after the advocate, representing the union government, said his party would inform their stand on easing traffic congestion.

The Division Bench opined that in the new age of technological advancement, time has come to bring rapid changes to such issues.
