Thiruvananthapuram: Congress veterans during an event at K Karunakaran centre, here took the opportunity to subtly target Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over his recent pursuits in the state.

In a veiled attack, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal warned Tharoor of disciplinary action.

Venugopal said that the situation is favourable for Congress, as the CPM is weak. At a time when the Congress is trying to recover from the defeat of the past two elections, some efforts to overthrow are being made, he pointed out. He added that every Congress activist should be careful about it. Every statement should be discussed within the party first, Venugopal said. His remarks apparently targeted Tharoor's recent statement revealing his desire to be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the state.

“Congress is not like other parties. We are a party that held an organisational election. Anything can be discussed, but it should be within the party," Venugopal said.

In similar lines, K Muraleedharan remarked about an incident that happened at the KPCC executive committee meeting on the other day. "The state party chief had taken everyone’s phone and kept them aside. But even after this, everything discussed at the meeting came in the newspaper," he said.

Muraleedharan further said that the candidates for the Lok Sabha election would be decided by the high command.

Meanwhile, according to Ramesh Chennithala, some people are dreaming about becoming something and it should stop. Everyone should work towards helping the party win the Lok Sabha election, he added.

Similarly, MM Hassan said that what was happening in the party was not groupism, but individualism.
