Congress to hold discussion on ousting Kochi Mayor on Wednesday
Kochi: The Congress Rashtriyakarya Samithi which will be held on Wednesday is likely to discuss issues pertaining to the removal of Soumini Jain from the post of Kochi Mayor. Though party leaders have unofficially discussed the issue with senior leaders in Thiruvananthapuram, the official decision is expected to be taken by the political committee.
The final decision is likely to be taken to hold those persons accountable for miserably failing to discharge their duties rather than blaming one person. Therefore apart from expelling the Mayor, there is a probability to oust several employees from their respective posts.
At the same time, the leaders are concerned whether that such a move could be implemented in the Kochi Corporation. Mayor Soumini Jain said that she is prepared to comply with any decision taken by her party.
However, there have been criticisms that the removal of permanent council members is part of the agenda plotted by some senior party leaders. Some councillors have even threatened to resign if Mayor is replaced.
The election of Deputy Mayor is expected to be held by November 12. Even if the Deputy Mayor is elected with a thumping win, UDF does not have an absolute majority in the finance committee. Hence te party will try to contest as many as members for the upcoming election for finance committee. Competing for the post of Mayor is a long way as Deputy Mayor should be elected prior to the latter election.
