Thiruvananthapuram: Congress has decided to field Anwar Sadath in the election for the speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
Anwar is representing the Aluva constituency.
Ruling CPM had inducted former speaker MB Rajesh into the cabinet to fill the vacancy of MV Govindan who took the charge of the party state secretary. CPM had also decided to make Thalassery MLA AN Shamseer the next speaker. LDF holds a confident majority in the assembly and the election will be only a technical hurdle for the party.
The election will be held on September 12. Nominations can be filed till 5 pm on 11. Deputy speaker will chair the process.
Though the Assembly session had concluded last week, it was not prorogued. Hence, the session on September 12 will be considered as an extension of the sixth session of the 15th Assembly.
The session will end with the speech of the newly elected speaker.
