Congress should take initiative to materialize Gadgil report: P T Thomas
Kochi: P T Thomas MLA on Thursday said that all political parties and the state government should come forward to implement the Gadgil report to protect the Western Ghats. He also continued that like Indira Gandhi who took initiative to protect Silent Valley, Congress should come forward to conserve the Ghats. Catholic church should reconsider its stance on Western Ghats in the backdrop of natural disasters, added the MLA.
"Earlier, party and leaders had criticised me for supporting Gadgil report. I was sad over that incident. But I was confident that one day people would realize the truth," said P T Thomas to Mathrubhumi News.
My demand is that the Catholic church should change its stance. The church had taken an opposite stance on Gadgil report. Church should show courage to admit that its stance was wrong. If the Gadgil report was implemented, the intensity of disasters could have been reduced. Government should form a high level committee to materialize the report and people should be made aware of what this report is all about, added P T Thomas.
