Congress prez poll: Crucial meeting held in Thrissur hotel, Rahul Gandhi refuses to contest

Thrissur: Amid the preparations for Congress President Election, Rahul Gandhi held a crucial meeting at a hotel in Muringoor here on Thursday. It is learnt that the candidature of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot was discussed in the meeting presided by Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi summoned the second meeting on the presidential election after getting information on the Kerala leaders who are all set to enter the election fray. It is learnt that Gehlot agreed to contest the election during this meeting.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the former president of Congress refused to contest the election. According to reports, he declined the repeated requests of the Pradesh Congress Committees and senior leaders.
The party issued the notification regarding the election to the post of AICC president on Thursday. Rahul Gandhi declared his stance soon after the notification came out.

“ I have announced my decision on the Congress President election. I already informed the matter to Congress family. There is no need to discuss the matter further,” asserted Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, leaders including Shashi Tharoor who expressed interest to contest the election informed that they will step back if Rahul contests the election.
