Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police on Tuesday booked MLA Eldhose Kunnapillil for assaulting his former friend.
The Perumbavoor MLA is booked with non-bailable charges against.
In a statement given before the magistrate, the complainant, a school teacher, alleged that the Congress leader repeatedly assaulted her multiple times.
"I was assaulted at several places. He also promised money to withdraw the complaint," she said in the statement.
The woman also alleged that police officials tried to settle the case, and Eldhose even offered money in front of the Kovalam station house officer..
On September 14, Eldhose and the woman visited Kovalam. Later, the woman lodged a complaint before the City Police Commissioner that he assaulted her. This complaint was handed over to Kovalam Police. However, they did not initiate a probe. The woman was summoned to the station after the news regarding the assault came out. The FIR was registered after that.
Meanwhile, Vanchiyoor Police registered a case following reports that the woman was missing. However, the complainant appeared before the police on Monday evening.
