Congress leadership planning to make Rahul Gandhi more active in state politics
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leadership in the state is planning to make Rahul Gandhi more prominent in Kerala politics ahead of next year’s assembly election. The party leadership believes that Rahul’s presence has given more energy to the farmer’s strike in north India and for the protests held in Uttar Pradesh. They believe that Rahul Gandhi’s presence, also as an MP from Kerala, will be beneficial to the party.
Rahul Gandhi was able to draw big support from the Christian and Muslim communities through the protests that were organized against BJP in North Indian states.
Two allies have left UDF since the last assembly election in the state. When LJD returned to their former alliance, Kerala Congress (M) broke their alliance with UDF, after nearly 3 decades. This has caused unrest in Congress's top leadership.
Although the MP’s office is functioning well in Wayanad constituency, Rahul Gandhi had not visited the district for several months due to different reasons. This had led to criticisms from political opponents. Congress workers want Rahul Gandhi to be active in the state in the coming months, especially ahead of the assembly election next year.
Congress leaders believe that Rahul Gandhi’s presence will cut down the group fight within the party. The fact that minority communities trust Rahul Gandhi to lead the fight against communalism in the country will also be beneficial.
