Congress leaders, including T Siddique, protest to see body of Maoist killed in shootout; arrested


Siddique stated that they came to see the body of the maoist and his family members. He alleged that the police denied permission as the officials had many things to hide.

Kozhikode: Police arrested several Congress leaders, including KPCC vice president T. Siddique, for staging a protest at the Kozhikode Medical College demanding to see the body of the Maoist who was killed in an encounter.

The Congress leaders staged protest demanding to see the body of Maoist Velmurugan who was killed in an encounter in Wayanad the other day.

Though the Congress leaders demanded to see the body, the police denied permission. Following this, KPCC vice president T. Siddique, Kozhikode DCC president U. Rajeevan and KPCC general secretaries Praveenkumar and N. Subrahmanian staged a sit-in protest. As the leaders opposed arrest, the police took them away by force.

Siddique stated that they came to see the body of the maoist and his family members. He alleged that the police denied permission as the officials had many things to hide.

Later, Kozhikode MP M. K. Raghavan also came to the spot. He said that what happened was similar to an emergency. Police action reveals that the encounter in Wayanad was a fake one, said the MP.
