Kochi: CPM state secretary MV Govindan said on Thursday that Congress is the 'B team of the BJP'.

He was reacting to Congress leader AK Antony’s remark that those who visit temples or apply tilak on their foreheads should not be sidelined in the name of soft Hindutva.

He said the Congress endorses soft Hindutva and the CPM has been criticising it for a long time.

"The BJP cannot be defended with soft Hindutva, which is what the Congress has been doing. This is working as a bridge to help the BJP,” he said.

Govindan said not all believers are communalists and that communalists do not have beliefs.

Communalists use belief as a weapon, he added. The CPM leader also said every believer has the right to follow their beliefs. They should not be tagged as communalists, he said.
